It takes a special kind of narcissism to celebrate ignorance by comparing one’s self to genius.
SURELY SHE’S A COMEDY CHARACTER
among the words Shakespeare made up: “bedroom,” “bloody,” “amazement,” “laughable,” and “road.” most of Shakespeare’s words reference an object, or involve an accessible, transparent pairing between an already existing word and a common suffix. but refudiate? what is that, a portmanteau of refuse and repudiate? in Palin’s case of imploring Muslims to “refudiate” the building of an Islamic center by Ground Zero to avoid “controversy”, the concept of refuse + repudiate doesn’t even sound like what Palin is going for. refusing the center? maybe. but to repudiate it? wouldn’t help at all, if you want to actively stop the building of something. think about this, Palin. or maybe don’t.. i’m not sure it would help.
to quote double rainbow guy, because i will never pass up the opportunity to do so: “what does it mean?”
It was pretty obviously a mix of “refute” and “repudiate…” not that I’d expect anything less of someone who thinks she has to link us to the Wikipedia article on “portmanteau” in order to use it in a sentence. I’d imagine someone like you would be happy about the confusion. I’m sure you just love learning new words, don’t you?
