A Conservative Tumblog: Respect the sanctity of life! Repeal Roe v. Wade!
I’m tired of all you pro-abortion dicks, so I’ve compiled a list of common arguments and responses to them.
- “A woman has the right to her own body.”
First off, it’s silly to think that the law cannot tell us what we can’t do with our bodies. We can’t put certain drugs in them or sell…I find it ironic that conservatives are so staunchly anti-abortion. They endlessly extoll the virtues of personal liberty and freedom, yet they want to deny a woman control over the most fundamental and self-evident of liberties: control over her own reproductive rights. Doesn’t it ever bother you champions of liberty that forcing a woman to carry a pregnancy to term is a serious infringement on personal liberty? Conservatives like to point to China’s draconian family planning laws as immoral and cruel, because they put a lot of women in the position of having to have an abortion. But how is the inverse of that any different? How is government forcing women to have children (which is what outlawing abortion would in essence do) any different from government forbidding women to have children? It’s essentially the same thing.
No, see, it isn’t. One is deprivation of rights in the name of a principle: that population control and convenience outweigh both one’s right to life and one’s liberty. The other is depriving rights in the name of the opposite principle: that your right to life outweighs someone else right to liberty in their whim to take it away.
The end result in your warped reasoning =/= the end result in reality. How ironic!
As for “fetuses rights,” there exist no constitutional protections for the unborn. The fourteenth amendment makes reference to “persons born or naturalized in the United States” not incubating fetuses. Courts have held that a woman’s right to reproductive self-determination outweighs any presupposed rights of a fetus that cannot live outside the womb. That’s why restrictions on abortions don’t apply until the fetus can survive on it’s own. Point here being that there is no objective legal standard for when fetuses receive the rights and protections of an adult human.
Observe: the ethical philosophy in which our legal system is based, i.e. inherent rights, not legal ones

Legal =/= ethical. How ironic!
The argument that women get abortions for convenience or use it as a form of birth control is absolute bullshit.
Statistics say it isn’t.
The vast majority of women who get abortions get them because they cannot afford to support a child emotionally, financially, or both.
How is that not in the name of convenience? If a woman gave up her five-year-old because she wasn’t able to afford it or “couldn’t handle it,” most would say that’s because the child’s inconveniencing her.
Conservatives almost never consider the social ramifications of millions and millions of unwanted babies being born into society. Children growing up in dysfunctional and abusive families. Children growing up in abject poverty. Many would inevitably be chewed up by the criminal justice system (then again, I know you conservatives love to build and fill prisons). This is the essential hypocrisy of conservative abortion angst: it lasts until you’re born. As long as you don’t get aborted, they don’t give a shit what happens after.
It’ll have a difficult life, so it’s better off dead? Well, how about we kill all of the children of impoverished families seeing as they’re obviously going to amount to nothing and will live awful lives of squalor and misery anyway? And while we’re at it, why don’t we simply do away with the children of ethnic minorities since they’re statistically the majority of the lower classes? I mean, hey, you’re just doing them a favor, right?
Nobody is better off dead. And don’t give me some nonsense about a POW that’s been raped with baseball bats every day for 10 years who just wants to die; that’s not even remotely the same as one person unilaterally deciding for another that his/her life will not be worth living, and then taking steps to end their life.
I could make an argument for every single person on this website about why I think you’d be better off dead - but the fact that I decide it for you doesn’t mean I can kill you.
Ultimately, conservative gripes about abortion can be synthesized down to the same recurring idea: abortion is murder and killing babies is evil. Congratulations on taking a complicated, nuanced issue and distilling it into a childishly simplistic good vs. evil scenario.
If you’d read the original post, you’d see that my argument is: abortion may be murder (I would prefer to err on the side of life until we’ve conclusive, objective, scientific evidence that it isn’t) and murder is, in the eyes of myself and the founding fathers of our nation, an inexcusable deprivation of one’s inherent right to life. Nice job fucking it up, there, though. You made my position sound almost as stupid as yours is on its face.
To any conservative who opposes abortion in cases of rape and incest, I’ll say this: I hope your wife gets raped and you get to raise her rapist’s baby. Enjoy.
Again, I see the blind compassion that fames you for those poor unwed mothers and rape victims and women who just haven’t the energy for a messy, time-consuming human life is spilling over into other areas. How ironic, eh?
